My mother Marie and I took a jaunt to Royal Oak (MI) recently to pick up an order placed with stained glass and paper college artist Marsha Filipiak. My mother used to live across from Marsha many moons ago, and we had a nice time reminiscing while taking a tour of Marsha’s studio and workrooms. Coming soon by Marsha: digital collage compositions table top art, wall art, and boxes. Louise (March 2011)	Mystic The triangular body of Marsha’s Mystic Garden Stake is made out of marbled stained glass. She then solders swirls and spirals made of heavy-duty copper wire and finishes it off with a copper coil that contains two clear glass baubles. A hook at the top hangs it off a 48” steel crane. Karen says, “After sketching a design idea, I head out to my garage-studio, where my power tools reside. I cut and sand the piece (or pieces) I will need from aspen wood. Then it is back to my indoor studio to work on the next steps of the process of drawing the design, wood burning to etch the image, use acrylic paints to color the designs, and finish it off with an acrylic sealer. 	Cohen Tiles Michael Cohen and resident artists at Cohen Title Works have been making neat, functional stoneware for 42 years. Initially they made a variety of stoneware bowls, mugs, and trays etc. In 1997 they created a line of Blue Tiles tiles that have become extremely popular. So popular that they stopped making most everything but Blue Tiles. There are nearly 3 dozen different designs. These unique handmade tiles are individually cut from stoneware clay. Original designs are pressed into the tile. It is then colored with brilliant blue glaze and highlighted with molten glass.
Cohen Blue Tiles Approx. 5¾" x 5¾" tiles have four protective pads and a small undercut on the back, making them equally useful as trivets or as decorative wall hangings. $32.	One size.
