For our efforts, bats rewarded us with their natural bug-zapping ability. Bats eat thousands of insects during nightly feeding. Not only do they eat tons of insects every night, some bats pollinate, and disperse seeds. Bats are nocturnal and do not disturb birds; you may place bat houses near birdfeeders. Bats and birds coexist very well because they forage for food at different times. In Michigan, bats leave bat houses in winter, and migrate, but once a colony is established, bats return (typically in early March) to the same bat house year-after-year.

to top	J.J.'s NestingTips - "Dryer lint is not recommended as nesting material, it holds moisture and may create an unhealthy condition in the nest. If you do wish to collect materials suitable for nesting we recommend: animal and human hair, short lengths (3-inch or less) of string, yarn, dental floss and thread, shredded paper, strips of wood, cotton batting, feathers, and sisal (a wood product). We also recommend you refrain from offering nesting materials in the thin plastic mesh bags often used for packaging some brands and also is found in the produce section at grocery stores. Plastic mesh has been known to entangle birds and other wildlife. Use a wire container designed for nesting material - suet baskets work well, too!
