Dear
Friends:
You may have read, Whole Foods,
and other stores will soon stop offering paper or plastic bags to shoppers. Being an
earth-friendly store, J.J. Cardinals thinks this is a great idea.
We plan to stop using disposable plastic, and large paper grocery bags by Earth Day April 22, 2008.
We, along with thousands of other merchants will keep roughly 100 million plastic bags out
of the environment between that date and the end of 2008, alone!
Many of our customers are already coming in with their own totes. And from discussions
with customers about discontinuing these types of bags, it is apparent the vast majority
of the community thinks this is a great idea, too.
In place of the plastic bags, and paper grocery bag, we will offer a new reusable tote.
This tote is natural 10-ounce cotton canvas and is a perfect shopping bag. It is
13½" wide x 15½" tall, and features 5½" sides and bottom. 23"
handles make it easy to carry, and theres even an inside pocket. All seams and
stress points are double stitched for durability. The shape is like a traditional paper
shopping bag.
These totes, made by our friends to the north, Canada, are for carrying your J.J.
Cardinal merchandise. Theyre also great for grocery shopping, daily errands, craft
projects, travel, etc. Unlike bulkier totes, our tote folds neatly and easily to fit in a
small space. We recommend you roll them up, and store them inside one bag, and keep them
in your car.
In addition to this option, we will continue to have flat paper bags for small items
like greeting cards, etc., and some of our seed mixes will still be in plastic that is
100% recyclable. Of course, customers are encouraged to continue to bring in their own
totes for filling, but if you do not have shopping totes yet, we are sure youll fine
these convenient, and affordable.
Suggested retail price for these nice bags, $14.25; our price, $9.95.
