Dear
Friends:
He strolled in freshly shaved well before his appointed time, clad in a traditional
cream-colored snap-sports cap, white polo shirt, crisp khaki trousers, and announced,
Im here to sign books. He had a slight stoop to his walk, as one would
expect from someone so well traveled; he has visited every continent in the world (accept
Australia) conducting nature tours the book biography said.
Ted Black
visited our store on Saturday, August 16, for an introduction and book signing. His book, The
Birds of Michigan, was recently released by Lone Pine Publishers, and we were the
first on the list of stores he is touring promoting it.
This mild-mannered soft-spoken man has accomplished more than anyone could in two
lifetimes, and he shares, in an unassuming way his knowledge of the natural world. When
asked if he had written a diary of sorts about his adventures, or put to paper some of his
experiences that could be read and passed on, he paused for a long time, and said it
was not for him.
Dozens of people came in to meet him; he took time to thoughtfully answer every
question. For those of you who did not have a chance to meet Mr. Black, he signed extra
copies of his book- we have a limited supply on hand.
The Birds of Michigan features the 302 species of birds in appealing detail that visit
and live in Michigan. It includes: complete descriptions, birds-in-flight illustrations
when helpful for identification, range maps, nesting preferences, diet, vocalizations, and
where to find the species all on one page. Flexi-bound cover is easy to handle in the
field. $19.95. Great gift idea!
