 Owning and operating a small business requires one to adapt. And likely tackle
chores many customers may not even consider part of running a small retail store. It
flatters us when people ask or assume this is part of a franchise group...or they'll say
they: "like this shop better than our store on Corunna Road" which we are not
affiliated with (and is part of a franchise). Besides tasks like keeping the
store clean, organized, well-stocked and inviting...we enjoy being involved and connected
with our customers and nature. Hence, our endless series of events & community
programs that have affected thousands of local residents through monthly nature hikes,
bird house building classes and more [see "in-the-news" for more examples].
All the news this year about recalls of toys and other goods made in
foreign lands contrasts our desire to find awesome quality merchandise that originates
right here from North America. We are proud of the quality, creative American-made
products that fill our store - many are one-of-a-kind creation by independent artists and
craftspeople. Made in USA, made in Canada. It warms our hearts, and challenges us to plod
forth and find more fabulous stuff for our guests to enjoy. Bird feeders in all sizes and
shapes, awesome bird houses and nesting boxes. Handcrafted art work: nature inspired
jewelry and home decorations.
The mirror pictured above right is a classic example of the creative
spirit found at independent shops like ours. We connected with the artist, Karen Anderson, and requested
a mirror with a birding theme - and we're delighted with the finished project. It is just
one of hundreds of unique and inspired pieces you will find in our little shop.
