Our new wildlife artist Cynthia Tomasik
lives in a tiny little town called Bergland that is located in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
The inspiration for her one-of-a-kind original drawings is all around her - in the woods,
in the trees, and in the meadows.
She particularly loves to draw birds as you'll see in her collection. When
we recently interviewed Cynthia about the subjects she chooses she said, "I love to
draw the feathered and furred." The items she has presently featured at our shop are
matted and framed and a 5" x 7" original is $55.00. An 8" x 10" is
$68.00 (see sample on our gift page).
Cynthia's spouse William is a wildlife photographer,
and Cynthia often looks at his inventory of photographs for ideas. The two of them travel
around our state offering their works at art shows. Cynthia also has her work featured in
several galleries. Cynthia says people flatter her when they ask her where she studied
art. She told me she didn't study art anywhere formally; She is self taught and has
enjoyed drawing her whole life but only started using technical pens professionally the
last twenty years. The ink she uses is waterproof allowing her to highlight and tint with
watercolors after she is finished drawing.
Cynthia was asked by a one of her customers if she could draw a portrait
of their pet. They had just lost their pooch of 15 years and he thought a drawing of their
pet would be a lovely memorial gift for his wife. This request has opened up a whole new
area for her. If you would like a drawing of your animal companion, Cynthia requires at
least two photographs of your pet and a brief description of how you would like your pet
shown. Her 8" x 10" which fits a standard 11" x 14" matted frame is
only $200.00. She asks that you allow her two to four weeks to complete the project.
