All that is required to make glass is sand, soda ash, pot ash, lime and high heat. History sets the beginning of glass production nearly four thousand years ago in Mesopotamia. The Process of making glass was discovered while potters fused sand and minerals while firing their clay. One clever Mesopotamian managed to form a glass tube and blow a bubble at the end creating the first blowpipe and hence the art of glassblowing. Nectar Feeding Tip: We recommend “Best-1” Instant
Hummingbird Nectar (above); it's the nearest mixture to natural nectar that we have found
in a pre-packaged food. Table sugar provides merely sucrose, and lacks dextrose found in
"Best-1". If you insist on making your own nectar please be sure: 1) your homemade solution is prepared correctly, and 2) your feeder is cleaned frequently and the solution is changed often. The correct solution is: 1 part sugar, 4 parts water. Boil the water first to ensure freshness & retard fermentation. Add the sugar to the water after it has boiled. If the nectar is too sweet and concentrated from over boiling the solution can be harmful to the bird. |

| Editorial: Another irresponsible act by big-boxy stores is their advertising and promotion of hummer food containing red dye. It makes us wanna' scream! Mindless, careless fools. Hummingbirds are attracted to the color red but it's not wise to add red food coloring or dye. A touch of red coloring on your feeder is enough to attract the birds. Also, avoid artificial sweeteners (no nutritional value) and honey which ferments quickly causing a deadly fungus to grow. Place your feeders in the shade and keep out of direct sun and wind. Be sure to clean your feeders every week. Some experts recommend using only water and vinegar for cleaning - bleach and soaps tend to leave trace residue. Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry completely before refilling.
