the bridge over Thread Creek is always a fun place to pause... handsome group of nature lovers one of those days you just don't want to see end...

An ideal summer day in August 1999 brought a large group of nature lovers out for a hike at the Commons.

above/left: The group beams because someone remembered to bring insect repellant on their nature hike at the Commons in July 1999.
above/center: several tree huggers struggling to join hands around this massive champion tree...one of several neat places found within the Commons. (It typically takes six or seven people who don't mind tree bark mashed in their face to accomplish this feat.) 		Paul S. was so inspired by one of J.J. Cardinal's programs in 1999, he adopted an eastern garter snake and named it "Snake Byte". The class: Michigan's Snakes was conducted by Jim McGrath, a naturalist from Williamston, MI. "I saw how harmless snakes are," Paul said. "It was fun when we handled the snakes."  Paul was a fifth grade Holy Family student at that time.
