this group spotted early signs of autumn approaching

J.J. Cardinal Naturalist, Alicia C. packs quite a whollop!

We learn more each day about the world around us thanks to neat folks like the group above who joined us on our monthly nature hike.
(yep, 'twas Sept. 2002)

Participants constructing a "bug dome" enjoyed help from J.J. Naturalist, Alicia C., who has graduated and believe or not...heading off to college. Oh-my-gawd. The year she spent with us sure flew! (April 2003) The "Bug Dome" is a great little observation dwelling to study insects. It's also a great opportunity to mash things with a heavy hammer! Fortunately in this case it wasn't the helper's thumb. (April 2003)

On a nature hike in 2000, we spotted a bulbous protrusion hanging from a tree. Only Louise from J.J.'s was brave enough to a.) reach out and touch it, and b.) help curious minds learn more about it. In this case, the "It" is a gall...click the link to read about galls. (Summer 2000) Dylan always delights us when he visits...he's such a bright and pleasant lad with an urge to learn. On this occasion, the Story Hour topic was bats, and the mission: building a shadow box bat cave. Constructing a bird feeder is but one of many "U-Build" projects we sponsor virtually every month at the store. We also enjoy meeting with scouts, schools and other groups. (Oct. 2000)
