"Perhaps the best bird seed that Mother Nature has to offer!" It's been our slogan since we opened the store...and our quest never ends: finding you the very best seeds and grains that are available. Hauling 50-lb. bags of yummy birdseed out to customer's vehicles quickly proved to be a challenge, physically, on JJ Cardinal's staff (and their aching backs). Enter our trusty cardinal red Radio Flyer wagon...since being put into active service, "little red" has helped haul over 4 million pounds of assorted birdseed, nuts, and grain.

	The extraordinary seeds in our custom blends have proven to be most attractive to the widest variety of birds that visit backyard feeders. Most of our seed comes from Michigan distributors freshly mixed to our specifications. On average, over 3,500 pounds of assorted beak-smackin' good seed flies out of our little shoppe every week! In fact, we are so proud of our bird seed, and the environmentally friendly craft paper bags, that we put our name on 'em! But, it's really the content that matters...try a bag and see what the birds are all talking about! left: Bright white safflower in Droll Yankees' late-great PK feeder. We had squirreled a few away for those shoppers searching for the original "Peter's Pride" birdfeeder but quickly sold out - darned shame - we love this feeder! (Three of 'em are still in use at JJ's "proving grounds".)
	In addition to our custom blended mixes (shown below), we carry an assortment of other seeds and nuts including: 99% clean, premium black-oil sunflower seeds, hulled select sunflower chips - fine and coarse, bright white safflower, NutraSaff™, thistle (niger, or "Guizotia abyssinica" seed), peanuts - whole & shelled, corn - cob, cracked, whole walnuts, & whole or hulled millet, plus, a variety of suet products (see suet page).
	Trying to avoid squirrels? Safflower >> Seeds like bright white safflower and thistle (niger, or "Guizotia abyssinica" seed) have advantages for some consumers battling critters at their feeders. Squirrels are not fond of either of these seeds. No baffles or additional equipment required. We'll help you select the right seed or custom blend to attract the type of birds you desire.

	NutraSaff™ Organic Golden Safflower is a new variety of safflower developed without the thick white hull, yet offers 15% more oil content, 25% higher protein 30% higher fat content (energy) than traditional "bright white safflower". NutraSaffTM provides higher energy sources with less waste and less mess around feeding stations. However, unlike traditional bright white safflower seed, we have found red squirrels and black birds are somewhat attracted to NutraSaffTM. [more info]
	Thistle / Niger (Guizotia abyssinica) This tiny black seed has a high oil content and is very appealing to American Goldfinches and other finches. Place this seed in a finch tube feeder that has tiny holes so the seed will not fall out. The seed has a shell, so imagine how small the meats of the niger seed are! Feeding birds "thistle" seed will not create a problem for your yard because the seed will not sprout under the feeder. This bird seed is not from the wildflower thistle. The seed that is fed to birds commonly called "thistle" is actually imported from India, Ethiopia, Myanmar, and Nepal. It is heat-sterilized when it is imported into this country so it will not germinate and therefore will not grow (weeds) under your feeder.

to top	"No-Mess" Mix ™ Select sunflower chips, peanut splits, and hulled white-proso millet. A mighty rich mix high in proteins and essentials fats. For most any feeder type with virtually "no mess" because the shells have been removed - the mix is 99.9% consumable! (Sure, there is typically one or two rebel shells in the bag that refuse to go.) Seeds which fall to ground that are not eaten by ground feeding birds and critters - uneaten seeds will not germinate.
	J.J.'s Finch Mix™ Finches love this mix of their two favorite seeds. Finely crushed Select Sunflower Chips and Thistle (niger, or "Guizotia abyssinica" seed). Tip: be sure the feeder used with this product is well protected with a baffle or other device to keep squirrels out. Critters are not fond of Thistle (niger) but love the sunflower hearts!

			Bird lovers who frequent our shop may enjoy the faithful feeder's "Birder's Dozen" card from JJ's - receive one a "stamp" with each purchase of the same size and variety of seed. After a dozen stamps you receive a free bag. Many customers maintain several cards: one for each type of seed their backyard birds enjoy. Sorry, suet cakes and peanuts - shelled or whole - do not apply for the faithful feeder program. Birder's Dozen cards are available exclusively for in-store purchases, only.
			Our bagged bird seed is indeed a "Michigan Connection": Tons of fresh bird seed from John Van Den Bosch, CompanyTM of Holland, Michigan is delivered weekly to ensure freshness and adequate supply. Our bags are made by Sun Coast Packaging of Sodus, MI. Nice folks. You'll be glad to know the birds will love seed from J.J. 			Radio Flyer Car! Fred Keller and Judy Foster's "retirement" project, isn't something you'd expect. The two built a car modeled after a Radio Flyer wagon, complete with handle and red buttons on the wheels. The car began as a 1976 Mazda Pickup truck, and the project began in the summer of 2009. They completed it in early August and have been turning heads everywhere they go. { Link to video clip }

J.J. Cardinal >> (ok, so who is this guy?)	J.J.'s Seed Tip Keep only as much seed on hand that your backyard wildlife consumes over a 30-day period. Seed stored longer than a month can attract insects and absorb moisture. Seed storage cans can help, too (see above). We're pretty fussy about quality; so we take delivery of seed from our distributor weekly and constantly rotate our inventory. Birds know when it's fresh!
